Title. Anatomical investigations in mathematics
Abstract.
A dictionary on the web provides the following definition:
Anatomy (a-nat-o-my) noun: The science of the shape and structure of an
organism and the interrelation of
its various parts;
a separating and dividing into parts for detailed examination.
In this lecture we will investigate and compare the anatomies of two
seemingly rather different
mathematical objects, integers and permutations,
and find that they are more alike than they at first appear.
