To: ugrads@cs.mcgill.ca, grads@cs.mcgill.ca, profs@cs.mcgill.ca Subject: SOCS Inside-Out -- http://www.cs.mcgill.ca/~guide Do you feel a pang of fear every time you sit down at a workstation in the CS labs? Are you frustrated with things that don't seem to be working properly if at all? Do you feel like strangling all those consultants and Unix geeks who respond to your innocent questions with "read the man page"? A solution exists, and it's called SOCS Inside-Out. Specifically written for (and by) McGill CS students, it features information about SOCS facilities, a guide to surviving Unix, and plenty of tips and tricks that will come in handy elsewhere. This year, the guide is available in electronic form only: * The SOCS Inside-Out Website * The SOCS Inside-Out Website is a dynamic student initiative which aims to reduce frustration and raise the level of computing competency at McGill. It can be found on the web at http://www.cs.mcgill.ca/~guide. We'd love to hear from potential contributors!
